Daniel Hill has been my friend and ally for many years. This leading British theologian argues that the Church must regain confidence in its doctrine to shape and influence philosophy, ethics, aesthetics, economics, gender relations, and the forms of the State. When advocates of these practices declare that the practices are not religious they are trying to re-assure people that they are not being duped into another religion. Hill does not use these fraught issues to manipulate, but rather to help his readers see more clearly. They would claim that anyone can keep their own beliefs and utilise these practices for the good they offer. As Christians in this day and age, we need to all be thinking critically, and closely examining the teachings of Scripture.

Daniel Hill has been my friend and ally for many years. It would do little justice to Aidan Nichols' vision if this meant only to other people's books. His own puny and ridiculous efforts would be as helpless to retain the joy as they would have been to achieve it in the first place.

But here, I wanted to comment on this failing as a book, rather than Levithan's failing as a political commentator. You could've called him Nick, Ely, Dash, the unnamed narrator of The Lover's Dictionaryor even A and I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference.
We know nothing about him except his views on politics. Much like or Fahrenheitit only exists for the purposes of being an essay. Both in personality and voice, he's the same as all of those protagonists of Levithan's.
